(and Hiking)
in June!
For June, Shanahan Neighbors for Climate Action is organizing two group bike rides for Walk and Bike Month, plus our very own Dan Friedlander is leading a Walk & Talk on Global Warming. And from the cornucopia of Walk and Bike Month activities, a ride for the little guys caught our eye.
Please join us for the B360 (ride a 360-degree route around Boulder!), a morning ride to the Farmers Market, a kid friendly ride, or an informative hike that looks at the impact of global warming right here on Shanahan Ridge.
Sunday, June 6 -- Little Bikes on the Prairie (Mountain bike tour)
** Meet at 10am at the Bobolink Trailhead.
Ends: Noon
Group leader: Mary Pettigrew
Cell: 303-641-0078
Join naturalist Dave Sutherland for an easy family bike trip along South Boulder Creek. We'll cycle slowly through rare tall grass prairie and stop to explore the creek. Bring a bike helmet and bikes that are ready to ride! Tag-alongs and bike baby seats are welcome. Meet at the Bobolink Trailhead. Six easy flat miles round trip. Ages 6 and up.
Sunday, June 6 - B360 Bike Ride
** Meet at 2 pm at the Fairview High School parking lot. No dogs, please.
Group leaders: Gwen and John
Cell: 303-809-5422
This is the 13th Annual B360 ride. The B360 route is 28 miles and takes 2-3 hours (not including the ride from Shanahan Ridge to Scott Carpenter Park, which is 5.3 miles each way). You can ride a shorter route: the B180 is 16 miles. We will ride from Shanahan Ridge to Scott Carpenter Park for the official B360 start. You can see the event details and map on the Boulder city website. There is a limit of 260 people for the B360, so we don't want to be late. After the ride, we can also enjoy the party at Scott Carpenter Park--refreshments, food and prizes!
Wednesday, June 9th -- Walk & Talk: A Talk on Global Warming
** Meet at 5:30 pm at the trail head near Lafayette and Lehigh
Group leader: Dan Friedlander
Dan Friedlander leads an intermediate hike (3-4 miles) on Shanahan North trail to Mesa. The hike will explore how ecological change, particularly global warming, will affect our lives and our relationship to nature in the future.
Saturday, June 19 - Farmers Market Bike Ride
** Meet at 10 am at the Fairview High School parking lot.
Group leaders: Carolyn and Tom
Cell: (303) 993-6518
You don't want to miss the Boulder Farmers Market this weekend, because you can also check out the Vintage Bike Swap at Boulder High, across the street from the Farmers Market. The round trip is about 15 miles. Bring your bus pass in case you want to ride the bus back. We can have lunch at the market and ride back along Broadway. While the ride to the market is not an official Walk and Bike Month event, the Vintage Bike Swap is -- and you'll love the company on the SNCA ride to the market and back.
** If you would like to purchase a SNCA T-shirt - call the group leader for your ride and we will have one ready for you. Please bring a check or exact change ($15 per T-shirt).
** Each bike ride could include travel on concrete bike paths, streets, and also some gravel/dirt trail.
** There are MANY other Walk & Bike Month Events in Boulder. Check out the Community Cycles website for a list of all the Biking events.
Enjoy biking and walking in June!
Warmly,
Gwen, John, Carolyn, Tom, Judy, Bill, Nola, Mary, Dan, Rick, and Don
