Huge 40+
Family Neighborhood Garage Sale August 23rd
This Saturday, August 23rd, Shanahan
Neighbors for Climate Action, a south Boulder grass roots
organization committed to addressing global climate change
as a neighborhood, will hold its first annual Super Community
Garage Sale from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Over 40 households will
be participating, offering a wide variety of treasures
from furniture to tools to kids' paraphernalia.
The emphasis of the sale will be
on keeping items in use, rather than adding them to the
landfill. Purchasing gently-used items reduces overall
environmental impacts by extending the life of the raw
materials, and maximizing the fossil fuels invested in
the manufacturing and transportation that went into the
initial production of these items.
The Shanahan Neighborhood is located
south and west of Fairview High School. From south Broadway,
turn west on Greenbriar, and follow the yellow signs posted
just past the high school. You can reach the garage sale
on the SKIP route. Multiple households will be participating
on the following streets: Longwood, Lafayette, Telluride,
Gillaspie, Juilliard, Iliff, Galena, and Smuggler.
Shanahan Neighbors for Climate
Action is a grassroots neighborhood organization dedicated
to creating a strongly connected community working together
to foster a sustainable future. SNCA's approach to reducing
emissions is focused on fostering a strong sense of community,
and using this to encourage environmentally sustainable
practices; providing a forum for the exchange of ideas
and information related to the environment and human impacts
on it; and creating a program focused on reducing the
neighborhood's greenhouse gas emissions. Together, by
creating a positive context for change, Shanahan neighbors
are pioneering the way for what is possible for neighborhoods
(and other groups wanting to make a tangible difference)
to accomplish.
