Shanahan Neighbors for Climate Action - Mobilizing Neighbors to Take Action Against Global Warming

Shanahan ‘Carbon Cutters’

The Carbon Cutters comprise a special group of thirty SNCA households participating in an important national pilot program with a local non-profit, the Green Heart Institute. The aim is to achieve sustainable, measurable reductions in our consumption and carbon dioxide emissions while creating a greater awareness of our connection to each other and to the planet.

The Carbon Cutters have committed to the goal of lowering the group’s carbon footprint by 22% in one year’s time. The Green Heart Institute provides the Carbon Cutters with the expertise and software – a specially developed, detailed carbon calculator – to measure and track our CO2 reduction. They help support and motivate our group through monthly educational meetings.

The Green Heart program helps people see their lifestyles holistically from financial, and environmental perspectives. The program approaches a “low-carbon lifestyle” from a values-based approach that focuses both on reducing negative environmental effects and saving money.

Our group is finding a way to ease into a low-carbon lifestyle through neighborly support of positive action. As we watch with excitement the decrease in our carbon footprint, we also gain enormous satisfaction from forming a more cohesive community.

Want to become a Carbon Cutter? We hope to add another group of 30 late this fall. Click here to add your name to the growing list!

Also, please attend our December 2nd skillshare
fundraiser, which will primarily support our
carbon-cutting programs.
