Sunday, December 6, 6:30 pm
This was an amazing and inspiring "small group" presentation by Dr. Susan Solomon, Nobel Peace Prize winner and recognized world leader in climate-change science. Over 135 neighbors attended. We learned how to view the weather data from a climate perspective, rather than the narrow 10-year snapshots the critics focus on. We also got perspective on the validity and origin of the weather data, as Dr. Solomon shared photos of the committed individuals who have been collecting weather data from many remote locations -- some for decades and one family for over 100 years. Our call to action for this event was to sign a petition on the Valmont power plant, and to call our senators to urge support for the deliberations in Copenhagen. If you attended this event and are excited to help out with SNCA, please let us know with this online form.

Climate Science Series
The next climate science series will feature Dr. Martin Hoerling, Meteorologist at NOAA. His research focuses on decadal climate variability and climate change, including the role of air-sea interactions.

Invited Speakers
One of our next invited speakers will be Dr. Patty Limerick, the Faculty Director and Chair of the Board at CU's Center of the American West. A professor of history, Patty has dedicated her career to bridging the gap between academics and the public and to demonstrating the benefits of applying an historical perspective to modern conflicts.

Carbon Cutters Challenge
Thirty SNCA households participated in an important national pilot program with a local non-profit, the Green Heart Institute. The aim was to achieve sustainable, measurable reductions in energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions while creating a greater awareness of our connection to each other and to the planet.

The Carbon Cutters committed to the goal of lowering the group's carbon footprint by 22% in one year. The Green Heart Institute provided the Carbon Cutters with the expertise and software to measure and track the CO2 reduction. They also helped support and motivate our group through monthly educational meetings.

The Green Heart program helps people see their lifestyles holistically from financial, and environmental perspectives.
